Pier Paolo Pasolini 2019

Outside the Piscinola-Scampia station on Line 1 of the Naples underground, in agreement with the Campania Region, Jorit has created a mural with the face of Pier Paolo Pasolini, the late intellectual, poet, screenwriter, actor, director, writer and playwright, who was killed in Ostia in 1975. The powerful image is accompanied by a sentence from Lettere Luterane (1976), a posthumous collection of articles: "They will teach you not to shine. And you shine instead". The artist states that "Pasolini has a close link with the world of the suburbs and with what he theorised about the people of Naples: a tribe that resists homologation with its identity". It is, therefore, an icon-image of hope for a neighbourhood that is notorious for its violence and organised crime.
