Park or garden of historical or artistic interest

Viviani Park

It rises from the city centre towards the Vomero hill, climbing up the side of the hill in an animated path, offering suggestive panoramic views of the gulf and the old city centre. The park, opened in 1994, covers an area of 20000 square metres, with green areas, paths and terraces, which was originally part of a rustic fund of fruit trees, from which citrus, fig and apricot trees were recovered, with subsequent grafting of khaki, apple, pomegranate and palm trees. The garden is equipped with children's playgrounds, small vegetable gardens and an area for outdoor performances. A characteristic feature of the park is the 'occhio di monte', a large tuffaceous cavity, the survival of an old tuff quarry, which can be reached by a spiral staircase, which starts at the highest part of the park, or by a lift. It is named after Raffaele Viviani (1888-1950), a famous actor and playwright of the first half of the 20th century.
