Murals by Jorit Agoch

One of the most famous Italian street artists, Jorit is the author of numerous murals, created in the metropolitan area and characterised by a pictorial sign with a clear and immediate stylistic mark. From Quarto to San Giovanni a Teduccio, from Vomero to the historic centre, from Barra to Gragnano, from Ponticelli to San Giorgio a Cremano, from Rione Traiano to Scampia, from the Centro Direzionale di Nap oli to Gragnano, from Rione Traiano to Scampia, from the Centro Direzionale to Palma Campania, he has created a wide repertoire of portraits, expressing social, identity and denunciation stories, closely linked to a specific socio-cultural context or to themes that cross common sensibilities. In addition to his great technical mastery, which allows him to create murals of large dimensions, Jorit combines social content that he expresses through a language with a clear realistic imprint. After an initial activity linked to writing, i.e. to a spontaneous but underground urban creative phenomenon, Jorit has been working in the public space for several years, working alongside local administrations and associations with whom he develops urban art projects. Since 2013 he has been painting on the faces portrayed with two red stripes, signs that refer to magical and healing African rituals, in particular to the initiatory rite of flaying, which marks the passage from childhood to adulthood. The humanity portrayed, which Jorit defines as "Humane Tribe", is not a collection of portraits, but a "political" action spread throughout the territory, freely available to all, which aims to restore the value relationship between art and community. In addition to the visual content of the work, the artist also associates words, names, phrases and messages, often hidden, that enhance the content strength of the portrayed image and the meaning of the works."Embellish the walls to embellish the conscience, and the walls have to speak and take a stand," says the artist.
